Beauty| Lisa Eldridge makeup line.

Lisa Eldridge is one of the most respected professional makeup artists in the fashion and beauty industry. Global Director of Makeup Creation for Lancôme, successful, blogger et YouTuber , she has since 2018 launched her own makeup brand.

Lisa Eldridge and I share a common love for fashion and beauty born from rummaging through our moms' closets.

« I first fell in love with fashion while going through my mother's closet in the late 1970s. She had lots of beautiful, long, breezy dresses that were very fashionable at the time! To me, she was the most beautiful princess I had ever seen.»

My mother used to keep her makeup in two beauty cases, one filled with lipsticks in finely stylized cases, the other filled with foundations, eyeshadows or blushes whose powders spread in the bottom, gave the case a divine smell of talcum powder and dried flowers. This is the same classification system that I use today to store my products.

A passion for beauty throughout history

An outstanding makeup artist and fabulous storyteller, she hosts Youtube segments on the history of makeup such as Vintage 1920's Collette, Vintage Hollywood or Best of Worst Makeup Moments in History . A topic that will be the focus of her first book"Face Paint" published in 2015.

A make-up virtuoso

When Lisa does a model's makeup in her tutorials, one can feel a desire to sublimate the face while respecting its physiognomy. The contouring or highlighting is done only when necessary. And foundations are applied in thin layers to let the skin breathe. I highly recommend her Youtube channel if you want to learn how to better apply makeup. Her tutorials, despite her 20 years of experience in the fashion industry, remain very accessible while technical with looks ranging from classic to chic. None of the videos is sponsored also no untimely paid product placements, which guarantees certain impartiality in her reviews.

Her eponymous brand

When in 2018, she announced on Youtube the creation of her first beauty line, a limited series of three "Velvet" lipsticks, I couldn't wait to be its lucky owner.

3 reds for 3 emotions; Velvet Morning is a bright orange-red; Velvet Ribbon is a true crimson red with a blue base and finally, Velvet Jazz has a deeper brick shade. The reds have a "velvet" finish and intense pigmentation. The reds are sold individually for 31 euros or by 3 in a beautiful pouch for the price of 93 euros.

"I often dream about makeup, and I dreamed about this product many years ago," the makeup artist said via a press release. "Inspired by my dream, I did a shoot a few years ago where I stuck real red velvet on a model's lips. It was a fun shoot but not very comfortable for the model. I've always loved the quote from surrealist writer and poet Andre Breton: "Objects seen in dreams should be made and put on sale." I really wanted to launch something that was a unique collectible, something different - and these amazing lipsticks are exactly that."

The "Velvet" collection has grown to include different shades of brown (Velvet Decade , Velvet Muse ) and pink ( Velvet Carnival). She also developed the "Luxuriously Lucent Lip Colour" collection of lipsticks that have a semi-transparent coverage and a satin finish. The product range has also spread to lip gloss with the "Embrace Lip Gloss" , highlighters with "Elevated Glow Highlighter" and blushes with the Enlivening Blush Blush . I made sure throughout my article to distill the references of the products I bought in the last 3 years. But if I had one last beauty tip to give you, it would certainly be this one:

"A Velvet Jazz or Atomic Cherry for a luscious mouth, along with well drawn and brushed brows, a khôl eyeliner for captivating eyes and cheeks enhanced with a touch of venitien red and you are good to go!"

See you around, xxx Jen.
